25 Books of Christmas - Stories of Santa

This was the second book in our double header tonight. Unfortunately, Little W needed an emergency outfit change in the middle of reading tonight so, we dressed him in his pjs and went ahead and put him to bed.

I loved reading this book again this year and since we have been listening to all Christmas music all the time on the radio, the two featured songs in this book are very familiar to Big Sister.

Since the songs were familiar, I decided to try the fill-in-the-blank style reading tonight. I would read all but the last word of the sentence and she would get to finish it.  "Up on the housetop reindeer pause, Out jumps good old ...." pause and wait for it.... "Santa Clause!"

Some of the words were still challenging, like "Down through the chimney with lots of toys. All for the little ones' Christmas..." pause and wait for it... Big Sister: "I don't know" Me: "joys!" She can either repeat it or you can just move on to the next page. We did a combo of repeating and moving on. It's supposed to be fun and engaging :) No pressure!

At the end of the "story" we sang the songs. That's always fun!

While these are not our favorite Christmas songs, it's still fun to get in the holiday spirit by singing! Is your favorite song in a book format? Maybe it would be fun to write out our favorite songs and illustrate different parts of the songs!
